Louis Oosthuizen and Thorbjørn Olesen will tee it up at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, the pair are the last two Tour winners on the Lake Karrinyup Country Club layout where the tournament will take place from 16-19 February.

South African Oosthuizen returns to Perth with winning on his mind, but he will need to conquer the unique format which incorporates 54 holes of stroke play with six hole match play on the Sunday.

“I really enjoy playing in Perth. The crowds are always brilliant and, of course, I have good memories of winning,” Oosthuizen said.

A repeat visitor to Australia, Olesen is looking forward to returning to a country which has seen him twice a champion, most recently for Team Denmark at the ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf alongside Søren Kjeldsen.

“Australia is a great country, especially Perth with great coffee, restaurants, beaches and golf courses, I am excited to be heading back to play the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth,” said Olesen.

“The format is very interesting; it’s something that a lot of the players have been talking about. I am looking forward to playing it for myself.

World Number 27, Oosthuizen is an eight-time winner on the European Tour, his career highlighted by his 2010 Open Championship victory.

Olesen, who is ranked 65th in the Official World Golf Rankings has won four times on the European Tour including once in Perth.

“Louis and Thorbjørn are very accomplished players who add great depth to the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth field,” said Stephen Ayles, Chief Commercial Officer for the PGA of Australia which oversees the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.

“Perth has a strong South African community who love to support Louis while Thorbjørn is one of a new generation changing the way people perceive golf.

“We believe they are a perfect fit for the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth which aims to engage traditional golf fans whilst also appealing to a broader audience via a fast paced and exciting format.”

Oosthuizen and Olesen will join World Number 10 Alex Noren and local favourite, amateur Curtis Luck, the reigning U.S. Amateur Champion at the inaugural ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth. Tickets are now on sale via Ticketmaster.

The ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth is proudly supported by the West Australian Government via Tourism WA.

Louis' Technology Tweaks

Posted: 7th February 2017

With a new G driver in hand, plus a PING Vault Voss Platinum putter back in the bag, Louis Oosthuizen parlayed a few equipment changes into a third-place finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Oosthuizen was one shot out of a playoff at -16 after a 6-under 65 on Sunday. During the week, PING Tour Rep Christian Peña built Oosthuizen a new G driver to reduce spin with a Project X Hzrdus T1100 shaft that improved feel and workability. Louis’ bag also included a G 5-wood, iBlade irons (3-PW), and three Glide 2.0 wedges (50 SS, 54 SS and 60 WS).

New Equipment Rising in Phoenix

New-product fitting is a focus as PING pros, including Harris English, visit PING headquarters in preparation for this week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open. Glide 2.0 wedges are #1 in PING bags, offering new groove technology that provides unprecedented spin and control. Among their proponents: Louis Oosthuizen, who’ll make his first appearance at the Waste Management, and Bubba Watson, twice a runner-up in the event. Eight of nine PING pros will play Glide 2.0 wedges in Phoenix. Sigma G putters, 16 models unveiled last week, are preferred by several pros. Aaron Baddeley has a Sigma G Anser in the bag. Brandon Hagy plays a Sigma G Tyne prototype.
