Louis Oosthuizen faces around two months out of action because of the injury that forced him to withdraw from the 142nd Open Championship at Muirfield.
Oosthuizen, who pulled out of the third major of the season after eight holes because of long-standing injuries to his neck, back and hip, will miss this week’s WGC - Bridgestone Invitational and the US PGA Championship.
“It is obviously very disappointing to miss out on playing in such prestigious tournaments,” said the South African, who has since begun a period of rest, rehabilitation and strengthening.
“But these are injuries that I have been managing for most of the season. It is important that I now give myself the proper time to recover.”
Oosthuizen hopes to return at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in late September.
